It is all about ePublishing as Arab Publishers congregate in Abu Dhabi for the fourth round of the Publishers’ Training Programme

Abu Dhabi 14th November 2012 |  Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and KITAB, the organisers of the  Abu Dhabi International Book Fair are all set for the fourth round of the Publishers Training  Programme which will run from 18th – 21st November at the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi campus. KITAB is pleased to collaborate once again with the prestigious Center for Publishing at The NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) and welcomes on board our new esteemed academic partner Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi who join us this year.

KITAB, along with its partners The NYU-SCPS Center for Publishing and Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, is looking forward to hosting this four‐day series of seminars led by experienced leaders in the international publishing industry.

The fourth round of Publishers Training will welcome 25 publishing executives from Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and UAE. Delegates will benefit from speakers drawn from the faculty of The NYU-SCPS Center for Publishing and the Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi who will be arriving in Abu Dhabi for the week of the training. The speakers bring with them a wealth of knowledge and market intelligence on best practices in global publishing and ePublishing trends.

The programme will consist of two seminars on the general topic of ePublishing. The sessions will be led by the two speakers, Peter Balis, Director of Digital Business Development for John Wiley & Sons and a professor at The NYU-SCPS Center for Publishing, and Jean-Michel Ollé from Paris Sorbonne University. Amongst other topics, the attendees will explore digital publishing, pricing, print-on-demand, online merchandising and piracy.

The modules being covered during the 4-day seminar are:

  • Introduction to e-Publishing, Class Review, Digital Formats
  • Pricing, Print-on-Demand, Digital Asset Delivery, DRM, Piracy and how to reduce illegal file sharing
  • Beyond the plain eBook: Mobile Apps and enhanced products
  • Marketing and Online Merchandising
  • Conversation with the Director of Wiley Dubai on recent digital initiatives, challenges and opportunities in the region
  • Strength and weaknesses of Arabic publishing in terms of digital publishing
  • What is being developed by e-publishers in France and elsewhere for specific targets: young readers, women, etc.
  • How to reorganize your company to perform in e-publishing
  • How to build international cooperation to address the world market.

The fourth Publishers Training session is being held on the back of the three extremely successful and over-subscribed sessions held since 2009.

The Publishers Training seminars form a part of KITAB’s mission of professionalising the regional publishing sector. KITAB has been working tirelessly with international partners and speakers within the industry in developing an extensive tailor-made Professional Programme which is organised under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
